High blood pressure: Early signs, detection

In 2013, it was found that 14 million Filipinos, or 20% of the adult population, have high blood pressure or hypertension. This is one of the deadliest killers in the country, yet it is rarely talked about, and its warning signs have yet to become common knowledge. Without obvious symptoms, many live with hypertension without knowing it.

Extraordinary headaches and nosebleeds are one indication of blood pressure that rises to 180/110 mm HG or higher. Pounding in chest, neck or ears, as well as irregular heartbeat and palpitations, is also a sign of high blood pressure. Serious blood spots in the eyes can also be a symptom of untreated hypertension.

Medical Center Manila or ManilaMed is ready to assist patients who have experienced these symptoms, or who seek more information about high blood pressure. Contact the hospital for details.
